Unscheduled Early Dismissal Procedures

Dear Parents,

The Crisis Team would like to update you about the Unscheduled Early Dismissal Procedure. If there is a time when an unscheduled early dismissal is announced during the day due to weather conditions or otherwise, these are the procedures we ask you to follow:

1. Listen to the radio, WBAL 1090, for announcements concerning the early

dismissal. We follow Anne Arundel County Schools.

2. You may call school but we only have two incoming lines - so they may be busy.

3. If you come to school before the scheduled early dismissal announced on the

radio or television, then come into the school lobby. You will be directed to the Hall

where you will be able to sign out your child.

4. Students who walk home will be held at school until they have contacted their

parents as to what they should do - walk home or stay to be picked up.

5. Students who normally go to Day Care will be sent to Day Care. Day Care will make

every attempt to remain open two hours after the closing of school.

6. When the bell rings for the early dismissal, the students will then proceed to

follow a regular dismissal procedure, coming out to the parking lot.

7. Check the school website for announcements – www.stjaneschool.org

8. School will also e-mail the information to the e-mail address you provided the school on the student information sheet.

Sometimes students who are car riders have left to go home with friends and did not wait for their parents to pick them up at school. St. Jane Frances School does not assume the duty to monitor students once they have exited the building and gone into a car to leave. We would like you to sit down at this time to prepare your child to know what to do in case of an unscheduled dismissal. You as parents should communicate to your child how you would like them to go home. For example: “I don’t want you to go home with... . Please stay at school until I pick you up.” Or parents could communicate that it is alright to go home with .... and that the child should call their parents once they arrive at their friend’s house.

We hope this communication provides information to help you and your child in case there are future unscheduled early dismissals, especially due to weather conditions. If you have any questions, please call school.
