Performing Arts Program Overview

These groups and programs offer students a variety of extracurricular activities to help them express their musical and dramatic selves.

Concert Band-The school band, open to students in grades 4-8, meets on Thursdays during the day for small-group instruction, and after school for band rehearsal. The school’s band teacher, Ms. Mortenson, also teaches guitar to students 7th grade and older (sorry, no other classical string lessons or classes are offered at this time). Look for band demos and more information to be sent home late in September.

Concert Chorus-This is the club for kids who love to sing! Students in grades 2-4 may join the Concert Chorus, which meets on Monday afternoons. The Chorus will join the bands and St. Jane Singers for our Christmas concert.

Drama Club-This club is a training ground for kids who want to be in our musical play production. Drama meets on alternating Wednesdays and on Fridays (check the school calendar for meeting dates), and is open to students in grades 3-8. We will use drama games and other exercises to teach basic stage performance skills. Anyone who is interested in trying out for the musical is strongly encouraged to join the Drama Club, since we will be working on scenes and songs, and on audition preparation.

Musical-This year, our Spring musical will be a full production of the show The Wizard of Oz.. Auditions will be held the first week of February, and the show will be produced on April 11, 12, 13. The production provides numerous opportunities for musical involvement, from singing onstage (grades 3-8 may try out), to helping out backstage with the Stage Crew (grades 5-8 may be on Stage Crew). Again, children who want to be part of our production should join the Drama Club or the Stage Crew Club in the Fall.

St. Jane Singers-The Singers is the premier choral ensemble of St. Jane. The group is open to all students in grades 5-8. The Singers will prepare a Christmas concert in conjunction with the Concert Chorus and the school bands.

Stage Crew Club-Stage Crew members help with our musical production by helping to build and move set pieces, and working backstage during the show. The Stage Crew meets on alternating Wednesdays, and is open to students in grades 5-8. Mr. Kane, Mr. Miller, Mr. Karr and Mrs. Delisle are Stage Crew coordinators.

Reelin’ in the Years-This year’s Talent Show will feature songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s (sorry High School Musical fans!). Singers and instrumentalists should find songs from an era of popular music to perform for the show. No other songs may be performed. Classical musicians may be featured at other times during the year. Dancers, cheerleaders, gymnasts, and martial artists should choreograph their routines to songs from one of these eras. Auditions will be held in October for a show which will be presented the weekend November 9 and 10.
