The Vocabulary
Workshop series is used with all of the grades. The words in this
book are difficult and require practice. A student who does homework, both written
and study, will do better on the vocabulary and spelling tests.

Be on the
lookout for all things English!
The writing binder/folder will
house all of the student's in-progress writing. It will also hold notes about
writing and good examples of published authors' work. It is to be brought to class
every day. An "Expectations for Writing" sheet clipped in the folder
explains all of Mrs. Habicht's class requirements. It should be reviewed
occasionally.
The binder is divided into sections: Writing Notes, Grammar Notes,
Spelling Notes, Spelling Homework, Literary Excerpt, and a sixth which is optional, Graded
Tests and Quizzes.
Mrs. Habicht says: "Organization is the key to
success."
Just an idea: Because
students are often asked to print out repaired copies of typed pieces for display or
contest entries, it would be a good idea for them to save the writing pieces on a flash
drive that is dedicated to just writing for English. A whole year's worth should
fit. Also, saving work in this way would allow the student to transfer the work
area from home to school and back again.

Two copybooks
are needed for this class: an
English notebook for grammar study, diagramming, and drills. It has
a table of contents which the student is to update as used. The second is a journal for written observations of the student's world.

things." |
