The Vocabulary
Workshop series is used with all of the grades. The words in this
book are difficult and require practice. A student who does homework, both written
and study, will do better on the vocabulary and spelling tests.

Be on the
lookout for all things English!
The writing folder will
house all of the student's in-progress writing. It will also hold notes about
writing and good examples of published authors' work. It is to be brought to class
every day. An "Expectations for Writing" sheet clipped in the folder
explains all of Mrs. Habicht's class requirements. It should be reviewed
occasionally
Just an idea: Because
students are often asked to print out repaired copies of typed pieces for display or
contest entries, it would be a good idea for them to save the writing pieces on a floppy
disk that is dedicated to just writing for English. A whole year's worth should fit.
Also, saving work to disk would allow the student to transfer the work area from
home to school and back again.

Three copybooks
are needed for this class: an
English notebook for grammar study, writing notes, diagramming, and
drills. It has a table of contents which the student is to update as used; a spelling copybook is to be used for class notes on tricky
everyday words, personal spelling challenges, and the 2 spelling activities which are due
with each completed vocabulary unit, and finally, a writer's
notebook for written observations of the student's world, which will be
kept in the writing folder and reviewed periodically along with other parts of the writing
process. |
