Our Class Constitution and Bill of Rights:
"The framers of the Constitution chose their words carefully as they laid out a blueprint for the nation in Philadelphia in 1787. Emerging from a hard-fought struggle for independence from Britain in 1781, the United States found the Articles of Confederation too weak. The country was in need of a new document that would unify and strengthen the fledgling nation without infringing on the rights of the people." http://school.discovery.com/lessonplans/activities/wethepeople/
In the first week of school we will be listening and trying to understand the Constitution of our United States and in turn we will be working together to create our Class Constitution & Bill of Rights.
Take a moment and read :
The Constitution of the United StatesPreamble
We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish
justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general
welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and
establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
5th Grade Incentive Program
Mrs. Armero and I would like to take a moment to introduce an incentive behavior program that we have established for our classrooms. This program is very easy to follow and helps to make the classroom experience successful for every student. Our hope is that all of our students will be responsible for their actions and understand that there are rewards and consequences associated with ones behavior.
On the rare occasion that discipline is needed, we have found it helpful to have a policy in place. Most issues are minor. Posted in my room are two forms. There is one for 4th grade and one for 5th grade. The children will sign the form as needed with first and last name and the date. The forms will be replaced every week, and the student will have a fresh start.. Forgotten supplies, talking at an inappropriate time, not following directions and other minor infractions would be cause for a child to sign the board. Once he or she has signed their name for the week, each additional infraction would only require the writing of the date. I will then use these forms to help determine effort and conduct for the progress report. If your child does receive his or her name on the form then your child will need to fill out a "Thinking Sheet" to explain the infraction of the rules. The sheet will then be stapled into the homework pad for the parent to see and sign. We ask that students and parents look over the planner each night as you go over your child's homework and talk about the day's activities. Parents are asked to initial the assignment book nightly. Assignment books will be checked periodically.
On the upside, for each weekly period if a student does not have to sign the list at all, he or she will receive a ticket to be put in a basket and used for a raffle drawing on Fridays.
Thank you for your time and patience in ensuring our students have a successful year in 5th grade.
