School Counseling

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The purpose of the school counseling program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental program which integrates academic, career, and personal/social development.  In collaboration with the faculty, parents, and community of St. Jane Frances, our program will help provide all students with the attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to become effective learners, achieve success in school, and develop into contributing members of our society

Our school counseling program strives to meet the needs of our students by providing classroom counseling activities, small group and individual counseling sessions, and school wide programs. Referrals can be made by parents or teachers who may have concerns.

Our Programs

Rainbows For All God's Children

Rainbows is a small group counseling program which meets monthly to provide support for our children (Pre-K through 8th grade) who are grieving and learning to cope with a death, divorce, or painful transition in their family.  The program has four main objectives; to help participants develop and understanding of the grief experience, to provide an opportunity for emotional healing, to assist in building a stronger sense of self-esteem, and to teach appropriate coping mechanisms.

An informative flyer and registration form will be included in our school newsletter the towards the end of September/beginning of October.  Please review the papers and talk about the group with your child/children to see if it may be something they are interested in joining!

Bully Busters

Our school wide Bully Busters program, which focuses on bully prevention,  includes age-appropriate classroom activities which will be conducted monthly throughout all the grade levels.  The program is designed to help students develop healthy social skills,  understand their abilities and use their emotions wisely, attain personal ownership and social responsibility within the school environment, and develop new and positive ways of interacting with one another.  The program emphasizes a collaboration between counselors, teachers, parents, administrators, and most importantly our students, in order to control and prevent bullying behavior.  The aim of control is to reduce occurrences of bullying, if not to prevent them entirely; the aim of prevention is to create conditions in which bullying is less likely to occur in the future.

8th graders---

I hope the shadowing is going well- please remember your shadow forms when you go.  This is an important marking period, do your best, so you have an impressive report card.   The teachers have to get together in the next 2 months, and rate you in many areas as a part of the high school application.  These areas include:   academics, attitude, and activities you participate in.

If you are attending a public high school, counselors from schools will visit to share information about their intake procedures in the spring.
